The Greatest First Post OAT
I'm sure there's a better name for this Substack š leave suggestions in comments
Welcome to my Substack! Itās been maybe a good five years since Iāve written for my enjoymentāyou can go back and read my old āMinecraft Warā documents from seventh grade where I pretended to play with YouTubers on their SMPs and chronicled all the fake events that happened as a result of my entrance. Ignoring that embarrassment, however, Iām excited to be back. THIS SUNDAY, I WILL BE DROPPING TWO ALBUM REVIEWS AND A NORMAL COMMENTARY/ESSAY POST SOMETIME IN THE LATE AFTERNOON TO EVENING. SUBSCRIBE TO THE SUBSTACK AND GET HYPE FOR THE TRIPLE POST
Iāll keep this quick to not burn you outāin this post, Iāll cover my motivations for starting this page as well as what kind of content you should expect.

Iām a certified yapper when it comes to just having random, pointless opinions with little impactābut I think I need a place to immortalize all the dumb takes that I tell my friends every day. Thatās what this Substack is for, especially my music takes, which can be quite interesting.
I need to get re-adjusted to writing in a non-academic context. Last week, my English class tasked me with drafting my Common App essay, which I, as anticipated, absolutely did not do, and copy-pasted an essay from a summer application (that I did NOT get into, but thatās beside the point). But I had to extend the essay by 200 words, something I could easily do just months before when I was locked in on narrative writing. I quite literally sat there for an hour not doing anything before throwing together maybe the most unsatisfying, unsophisticated extension of my existing essay that was promptly dogged on by my college advisor in our next meeting.
Iām trying to essentially factory reset my sense of satisfaction and entertainment. This is to say, yes, the brainrot really does consume, and I need to be able to have fun outside of Instagram Reels, the NBA, and Fortnite. I want to do something enjoyable thatās simultaneously more productive than cranking 90s all day.
With that said, what should you expect from this page?
PRIMARILY album/music reviews. About a year ago, I only listened to music while working outāand I listened to exclusively Eminem (and by that I mean I exclusively listened to like, 10 of Eminemās most popular songs). A year later, Iāve listened to so many new albums, discovered new artists, kept up constantly with songs, etc. This has fundamentally changed the way I look at music as well as art in general. To express my thoughts on all of this, Iāll be releasing optimistically one review per week.
Iām going to review a combination of classic albums and new releases. I have a few reviews of classic albums already written out, and Iāll review more upon special request (literally just message me anywhere if you want me to review an album. Iāll listen to it and write a review).
Random takes on random issuesāI have my first non-music post already planned out topic-wise (but not content-wise, obviously), but I quite literally have zero idea where to go from there. I promise Iāll think about something eventually.
Just random takes on any subject you want me to cover ever. Periodically, Iāll release just a bundle of small random opinions that are completely unimpactful and unimportant, like my thoughts on a certain food, invention, NBA team/player, the list is endless and will be added to by request.
For an overview of what kind of music I like, hereās my hype playlistā
Hereās my chill playlist (peep friend group on the front cover, RIP Josh got cut off)ā
And hereās my favorite song from each of the good albums Iāve listened to (WIP).
Iām going to rapid-fire some lukewarm-to-hot music takes to give everyone ammunition to argue with me in the comments:
Hereās my Receiptify from last month.
Call me a glazer if you want. My favorite artist is Kendrick Lamar, my favorite album is good kid, m.A.A.d. city, and my favorite song is Sing About Me, Iām Dying of Thirst (which I will discuss in GREAT DETAIL in my first post). Kendrick is winning the beef by a mile and Meet the Grahams is the best diss track of all time, although Family Matters by Drake is actually a really great song.
Aside from Kendrick projects, my favorite song is Saint Pablo by Kanye and my favorite album is Igor by Tyler, the Creator. The new Eminem song that dropped as Iām writing this (āHoudiniā) is a return to form for him with an outstanding flow. My favorite movie soundtrack song is the Winter Soldierās theme from Captain America. My favorite classical music piece is Chopinās Torrent Etude. LEGO Harry Potter vs. Luke Skywalker is the best Epic Rap Battle of History, and itās not close.
In terms of artists, I think that Taylor Swift is overrated, but at the same time is over-hated (just because people think itās cool, and not because they donāt like her musicāsome of it is quite good!) My favorite non-rap artist is Olivia Rodrigo. Ask me for any more takes in the comments, as I need to farm engagement, thanks!
